Outfit Post- Alexander McQueen Dress

I usually do not like the colour blue, but his dress is an exception! It is Alexander McQueen for Target, it was the last dress left on the rack and it was my size. It has a swirly tattoo print with a built-in petticoat. I'm wearing it with a velvet blazer from Kohls and shoes from Fred Meyer. I love Alexander McQueen so much, it was just shocking when he killed himself. I've even copied one of his Widows of Culloden dresses!

Outfit Post - Spiderweb Skirt

Since it is almost October, I feel like I can wear more of my Halloween themed clothing and not feel too weird about it. I embroidered this skirt about 5 years ago. The wool early 80's skirt was $1.00 at the thrift store. The little spider is beaded with Victorian glass beads I took off some rotting funeral trim. My shirt and cardigan are Forever 21 and my shoes are from Target.

Outfit Post - Silk Jumper

This silk jumper is from Brooks Brothers. I found one similar on their website  - $348.00! I paid $4.00. My shoes are from Forever 21, the only pair I have ever bought there. Their shoes are just so-so, don't you think? I also have on my Japanese little boy's school tie and chevron tights from Wal-Mart - $2.00!

Affordable But Interesting Shoes

                 $39.99                            $69.95                          $15.98                                 $26.99

                $33.99                                $54.99                             $24.99                               $54.99

                 $39.99                       $55.00                              $41.99                                  $20.99

If I'm going to spend real money on shoes (like $150+) they'd better be Fluevogs, LA Canadienne, Rockport etc... I am quite partial to the red & black flats as well as the Korean military boots. Thank goodness my birthday is coming up soon!

My Corset Collection

The black waist cincher on the left I wear all the time. I originally made it to wear with an 1880's bustle gown. The corset in the middle is Chinese brocade and is so tiny- 20" waist!  I can't believe this used to fit me! The corset on the right I made to wear to an exhibition of corsets at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Apparently I have 2 orange corsets. I'm not even really into orange but they were both made as part of a costume. The one on the left I hand beaded while watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs one year. It goes to a hot pink and orange can-can dancer outfit. The corset on the right is art of a 1900's-1910's black and orange Halloween costume. Every dot is sequined and the skirt has Beistle cats painted on it.

I could not get a good photo of the pink corset. In person it is not so shiny and is a lovely raspberry colour. It is an overbust corset with a drawstring at the top to make it secure.  The corset in the centre is a lovely gray/purple and also looks better in person. The corset on the right is my attempt at make a a more vintage looking corset.
The corset on the left is from from around 1900. It is in rough shape, but I still think it is beautiful. Every seam has 4 channels of boning! The middle vinyl corset is the only commercial one, I think it's from Leg Avenue. Each corset has it's own color coded bag, and they all live in the box my hockey skates came in.

Outfit Post - Lace Tights

I've had these tights for 2 months or so, but I kept putting them in odd places and losing them. This morning I found them again! They are from Fred Meyer, as are my shoes. My dress is 1970's Nordstrom from Goodwill.

Junk Jewelry

When I get bored at work I start shopping online. Recently I've been buying junk jewelry off Ebay. Some of it has turned out to be pretty cute. I've worn the silver necklace with the many tiny skulls and the silver spider quite a few times.. and gotten compliments.

Design Your Own Tombstone

A few Halloweens ago I found these online (but cannot remember where!)  In thinking I was going to use them as Halloween party invitations, I erased all the inscriptions on the tombstones. Sometimes I'll fill in a tombstone and attach it to an email to a friend, saying something like "CALL ME!". I'm sure you can think of a much better use for them, though!

September Theme Post - To All the Cats I've Loved Before

For Sophistique Noir's September theme "Someone Special", I have 11 someone specials! Since I was a baby I have loved cats, my second word was kitty. My current someone special is Max, whom I am holding above. I got him from the pound 2 years ago. He was severely underweight, covered in fleas and had an upper respiratory infection that almost killed him. When I travel, I take a photo of him & not my boyfriend! He very kindly posed for this photo & got cat hair all over me.
